Meet Habiba Ahmed
Habiba Al-Sayaghi’s journey into coffee farming began after marriage, joining a household rooted in the tradition. With six children to care for, she balances her duties between family and farm, dedicating herself to the coffee trees. Her earliest memory is learning to irrigate and nurture the plants, comparing it to watching a child grow—full of wonder and care.
Her day begins at dawn, tending sheep before making her way to the coffee fields. There, she works tirelessly through the demands of each season. During harvest, the farmers sometimes recite poetry—a brief respite in the backbreaking work. For Habiba, her passion lies in her love for the trees and the vital income they provide.
The path is far from easy. Every cup of coffee reflects a year of hard labor, bringing her a quiet sense of fulfillment. She dreams of expanding her farm and inspiring future generations to cherish and protect the coffee trees.
Looking ahead, Habiba envisions Yemeni fields filled with coffee instead of qat. If she could speak to her younger self, her advice would be simple: work harder, love the coffee trees more, and hold onto this tradition with all your strength.
