Hayma Dakhiliya, west of the Sana’a governorate, is a coffee-growing region marked by its unforgiving terrain and rugged, nearly impassable roads. The villages here cling to the mountainsides at 2,200 meters above sea level, cut off from the main cities and left in isolation. Around 83,000 people live in this cluster, with 400 families dedicated to farming coffee. They also grow corn, potatoes, and qat, relying on fertile soil rich in minerals and abundant aquifers.
The coffee trees, some over a century old, stand as a testament to resilience, having adapted to the harsh mountain climate—mild and rainy in summer, bitterly cold in winter. This endurance yields high-quality coffee, distinctive for its fresh, fruity notes. In Hayma Dakhiliya, the landscape dictates life, and the people’s connection to the land runs as deep as the roots of their coffee trees.
The Alliance for Coffee Excellence (ACE) is a globally recognized organization dedicated to advancing quality coffee through transparency and direct trade. Known for organizing the prestigious Cup of Excellence competitions, ACE helps connect coffee producers with roasters and buyers worldwide, ensuring recognition and fair value for exceptional coffees.
